Infrastructure at Scale. Responsibility Without Margin for Error.
The MIDC Jambhul Water Supply Scheme is one of the largest industrial water supply systems in Maharashtra, delivering treated water across a wide and densely populated industrial–urban belt that includes Ambernath, Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, and parts of Mumbai.
This infrastructure supports:
• Large industrial clusters
• Continuous municipal demand/p>
• High-volume transmission and treatment
•24×7 operational cycles
In a system of this scale, failure is not an option. Any disruption directly impacts industries, communities, and public safety.
Water treatment at Jambhul involves large-scale chlorination, where chlorine handling and dosing are critical to ensuring public health and regulatory compliance.
The risks associated with chlorine systems include:
• Potential leaks during operation
• High-risk handling environments
• The need for immediate response mechanisms
• Continuous monitoring to maintain safe limits
Given the scale of operations, manual intervention or delayed response was not acceptable. The infrastructure required fail-safe mechanisms that could respond instantly in emergency conditions.
Viosimo’s engagement focused on enhancing safety, control, and monitoring within this high-risk water treatment environment.
Rather than treating the challenge as an equipment requirement, the approach was system-led — asking:
• Where are the highest-risk failure points?
• How can response time be reduced to near-zero?
• How can continuous monitoring improve operational confidence?
To address these challenges, Viosimo supported the deployment of a combination of advanced safety and analytical systems, including:
• Nine Emergency Shut-Off Drives (ESDs) — the highest number deployed within a single water infrastructure project
• Rapid-response mechanisms enabling instant chlorine shutoff in the event of leaks
• Integration of continuous water quality analysers for real-time monitoring and compliance
These systems were integrated directly into the plant’s operational framework, ensuring they functioned as part of the infrastructure — not as add-ons.
The scale of the Jambhul scheme meant that:
• A single failure could have widespread consequences
• Response time had to be measured in seconds, not minutes
• Monitoring had to be continuous, accurate, and reliable
By deploying multiple ESDs across the system, redundancy and responsiveness were built into the infrastructure — significantly strengthening safety and operational resilience.
The integrated safety and monitoring approach delivered tangible outcomes:
• Significantly reduced risk in chlorine handling and treatment operations
• Immediate emergency response capability across multiple points in the system
• Improved operational confidence for plant operators
• Continuous compliance with water quality and safety standards
• Strengthened resilience of a system serving millions of people and industries
These outcomes were achieved without disrupting ongoing operations — a critical requirement in live infrastructure environments.
The MIDC Jambhul Water Supply Scheme is not just a large project. It is a reflection of how Viosimo approaches infrastructure responsibility.
This project demonstrates:
• Systems thinking over isolated solutions
• Safety before efficiency
• Intelligence embedded into critical operations
• Accountability in environments where consequences are real
It reflects a philosophy where infrastructure is designed to protect life, industry, and continuity.
The intelligence and safety principles applied at Jambhul inform Viosimo’s broader work across:
• Water Treatment & Management
• Technology-Driven Solutions
• Sustainability & Renewable Energy integration.
Each capability builds on the same foundation: responsible design for long-term performance.
As infrastructure systems grow in scale and complexity, the need for intelligent safety, monitoring, and control will only increase.
The MIDC Jambhul Water Supply Scheme stands as a reference for how large-scale water infrastructure can be strengthened through disciplined engineering, technological intelligence, and an uncompromising commitment to safety.
